Frequently asked questions
What do I wear?
Loose comfortable clothing. long trousers are good. Thin layers rather than one thick jumper. No jeans.
Do I need to undress?
No. Shiatsu is performed through clothing so you will remain fully clothed, making it really inclusive and a supportive feeling environment.
Do you use massage oils?
No. Another reason Shiatsu is so inclusive, no allergy problems.
How long will the actual treatment take?
Between 30mins to an hour depending on what your body is telling us on the day that it needs.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Fees are payable in advance. Cancellations of over 24hours before an appointment will be refunded in full. Cancellations of less than 24hours will be non refundable.
I am under the guidance of the hospital/ doctor, is Shiatsu ok for me?
If in doubt check with your consultant or doctor. Shiatsu is inclusive and generally safe for all in that we can adapt to suit medical conditions you may have, however checking in is always advised before starting a new therapy. We will discuss your medical histroy at your introductory session.
How do I sit/ lie during the treatment?
Shiatsu is generally performed on the floor, lying on a futon style mat with pillows to support head and knees. However for some when lying on your front, or if you struggle to get down onto the floor this can be uncomfortable so I have a traditional massage table which allows for comfortable access and support.
Access to my studio?
My studio is up two flights of reasonably steep stairs. Please let me know in advance if this would be a problem as we can discuss alternative arrangements.
